Sand Art Crafts

Does anyone know of anything that hardens sand used for crafts?

  1. Glue does.. I am serious
  2. Have you ever seen pictures from magazines cut out and clear-coated onto furniture? That would be the work of polyurethane. A polyurethane spray would be good for sand. It's a polymer containing urethane used as plastic, adhesive, paint, rubber, or to form a tough, resistant coating. This is probably the best option, because whatever you put it on, it seals in. A few years ago a friend of mine had used it on very large, live spider that was on a rock. It's in my house now, still on the rock. Also try sand-colored spraypaint. No sand, but the illusion of sand. A mixture of glue and sand may work, but could be messy.
  3. I think sand is already as hard as it's gonna get. It's little rocks for crying out loud! :P Seriously though, I think what you're looking for is something to make the sand stick together. Is that right? I'm not 100% sure on this but maybe spray glue would work. I see people that make sand sculptures use water while making them, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.
  4. What do you need it for? You can mix it into two part epoxy from the hardware store, I get Devcon 2 ton epoxy from wallmart-very heavyduty. You can also use any kind of glue, for wood, white craft glue or anything. Take a little bit of whatever you use to harden it and mix some sand in, few samples of different ratios will tell if it will work for you.
  5. I assume you mean besides mortar. Use elmers glue. It will hold the sand together but, when you are done.. you can wash it out.
  6. Epoxy will hold sand try different mixes.
  7. My sons teacher used white Elmers glue, it worked great and dried clear.
