Coloured sand Arts. Arts and crafts?

I would like to know how to colour or dye sand, have you seen those glasses vases or bottles with coloured sand in them? well i would like to make some myself. can anyone give me some tips or pointers? Thanks

3. I've colored sand myself. It is easy and fun to do. What you will need: Play sand also know as Silica sand. Acrylic paint. cheap craft sticks Disposable cups Wax paper. Pour some sand into a cup about half full. Pour in some paint;about 1/4 teaspoon at first. Mix well. Keep stirring until all of the sand is mixed with the paint. If you want a deeper, richer color add more paint. Spread the mixture out onto some wax paper and let dry. Since summer is upon us, put the mixture outside to dry. Once completely dry just break up the clumps until the sand is fine. You now have color sand.
4. Food colouring dyes will work and don't cost much.
5. You can buy kits where the jars come and the coloured sand comes in it and you can make your own. Try looking in any toy or arty crafty shops.
